Christmas 2009 has already come and gone! I just can't get over how swiftly the holidays passed this year. As always I had a wonderful Christmas... it was just different this year...
For one thing was the weather was nuts!!! On December 23rd It was 56 degrees outside.. it was lovely and everyone was enjoying the weather. Families were outside, birds were singing, the sun was shining..Ok Ok, you get it. It was nice out : ) But once the sun went down.. so did the temps and something ugly blew in..rain and wind! The rain and wind turned into sleet and snow...and before I knew it... we were all trapped inside our homes! In just of a matter of hours. It was nuts. I didn't want to be trapped in my own home so I drove over to my parents with an over night bag. Since my parents and I live in the same town, I never spend the night...EVER.. so my Mom and I were excited about this....
My Mom was in the kitchen putting the last minute things in the oven and mixing up different dips and appetizers. I was in the living room with my Dad watching the weather channel. We had family that was supposed to join us for Christmas Eve dinner.. they called and said, they were coming earlier to beat the bad weather! So I started helping my Mom and we were trying to hurry things along..when we got another phone call..they couldn't make it. The roads were to bad! When we got the call we were all standing in the kitchen, we looked at each other and died laughing.. Sure we were sad that weren't going to make it but we were cracked up about our dinner! Only 3 people were going to be there..and enough was prepared for 15- but that is not even the funny part!! We cooked all the side dishes and the other part of our family was bringing the Turkey and Dressing and the HAM! So we sat down to a meatless meal, it was one we will never forget!
After our enormous meatless meal- we all sat down and watched the Christmas Story. It is hilarious to watch with my Dad! Everything cracks him up and he has the best belly laugh ever... it makes me laugh just to see and hear him laugh... My dad hits the hay early so my Mom and I stayed up most of the night talking.. it was really nice. I really enjoyed being snowed in with her...
I slept in my old room. It was weird how everything was different... I laid there and was flooded with tons of good memories. I was feeling very nostalgic, trips down memory lane are good for the soul. I let myself get lost in the memories and fell asleep to the faint familiar hum of snores from down the hall. The next morning when I woke up my mother said:
Mom: How did you sleep?
Me: Wonderful, I don't remember having such fabulous sheets growing up...
Mom: Um, I don't think they sold New Kids on The Block Sheets in 1000 Thread Count, Becky!
Ha Ha Quick Mom, real quick...
My Mom decorated one of her bathrooms really cute this year... It is a super inexpensive way to decorate for Christmas... I am hoping I remember to do this next year... : )
In the rush of trying to get my things packed before the storm hit.. I forgot my camera so I didn't take any pictures of my family this year... that is really weird for me.. I am going to be a tagging fool when the facebook pictures start popping up!
I did get a picture of my boy Lou with his Christmas tie on... He loves it! Can't you tell.. Oh, and he is laying on one of my favorite presents...an OU quilt! Hand stitched and made with love.. my favorite kind : )
My family eventually all got together and we exchanged gifts and laughs. We loved on one another and talked about the days gone by... we talked about the upcoming year... and just had a wonderful time... So yeah, Christmas 2009 was different..but it was still wonderful.
I am blessed beyond measure.
While cruising action alley @ Wal-Mart this caught my eye and cracked me up! I thought I would share...
